Claire Baker welcomes Samsung investment in Fife

- BAKER: WE MUST EQUIP LOCAL PEOPLE WITH SKILLS REQUIRED TO SECURE JOBS

Labour MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife Claire Baker has welcomed a decision by Samsung Heavy Industries and David Brown Gear Systems to locate a new wind turbine facility and associated gearbox plant at Fife Energy Park.

But she has also warned the SNP Government that slashing college budgets could mean local people won’t have the skills to take up positions at the new plant.

Claire Baker said:

“I welcome this announcement by Samsung Heavy Industries which represents significant investment in Fife Energy Park.

“There remain concerns about the SNP Government’s decision to overlook Fife and award enterprise zone status to Dundee and Leith docks.

“I know that Fife Council intends to assess the impact that this will have on the Kingdom’s ability to attract inward investment.

“What we must do now is ensure local people have the necessary skills to secure jobs at the new wind turbine facility and associated gearbox plant.

“That’s why it’s vital that the SNP Government look at again at their decision to slash further education budgets.”
