Candidate calls for action over fallen tree which residents say is ‘an accident waiting to happen’

Fife Labour’s council candidate Bob Young has called on the local authority to remove a fallen tree which has been lying across a busy Dunfermline street since storms hit the town nearly three weeks ago.

It’s thought that the fallen tree, which is encroaching some four feet on to McClelland Crescent forcing drivers to swerve to avoid it, has been reported to the council on no fewer than four occasions.

Local resident Marie Macrae said:

“It’s an accident waiting to happen. I’ve seen cars swerving to avoid the branches.

“And it’s a particular hazard at night and when there’s a freeze. The road was icy this week and it was very dangerous for motorists who are swerving to avoid the tree.

“It has been reported to the council at least four times to my knowledge and nothing has been done, so I got in touch with Bob Young for help.”

Bob Young, Fife Labour’s candidate for Ward 3 Central, has taken up the case.

Mr Young said:

“As soon as Mrs Macrae contacted me I alerted Fife Council.

“I walk my dog in the area as I live nearby and I expected to see something done long before now.

“I know that the storms were out of the ordinary but three weeks on, it is simply not good enough that the tree is still lying there.

“Are they waiting for an accident to happen before something is done to make the area safe?”
