Gordon Brown welcomes back Mark Hood and Mark Cameron with Alex Burns Chair of John Thomson Memorial Committee
Speaking after the walk Mr Hood said ’It was a great privilege to represent the community on the walk which retraced the journey made by so many supporters 80 years ago who attended John Thomson’s funeral. I felt the walk was a fitting tribute and was happy to get involved. By raising money through the walk the charity hope build a living memorial to John Thomson by way of a new sports facility for the area which I think is a great project.’
‘The walk its self was tough and I think much tougher than people had expected but it only goes to show how well regarded John Thomson was by football supporters in his time for so many to make such a journey. It was not lost on any of the walkers taking part that we only done it one way and those attending the funeral would have had to walk home.’
Prior to the walk the charity was given a boost as local MP Gordon Brown agreed to become a patron of the charity. Mr Hood commented ‘All the walkers were lifted by the news on Friday morning that Gordon Brown was to be a patron of the charity and appreciated the time he took out to thank all of the walkers for the contribution they made over the weekend.’

how is the next labour govement going to address issuesie health traverlers that are in our recration ground these are young familys
Well done Mark. And, it was great that fans for all football clubs were so positive and recognised the anniversary of the tragic death of the young Fife goalie. Back in the 1920s Celtic and Rangers were both associated with being catholic and protestant but it is worth remembering that John Thomson was protestant and came for a strong protestant family.
At his funeral no one was bothered about religion, people of all faiths and none came to pay their respects to the former miner who was the genius goalie.
Let that be the guiding principle for today that no matter what religion we are we all stand together in our communities and in our lives and stand up for the issues on this web site.
